Wood River,

I talked to Ben and he said they could not do it the way I requested because they had no data on whether the firebox could keep up with the unit being stretched longer and staying with the 17 inch firebox.  They said they would have to probably put an 18 inch box on it but the cost would rise a few hundred dollars.  In addition he said the griller would be so small that it would not be practical.  I personally think stretching the smoker to 42 and reducing the griller to 24 would be a perfect size but as Ben said if he went out in the shop and requested a custom model with these specs the boys would have pulled their hair out with the backorders they already have.  Im sure they could have done it but it probably was a matter of Ben and the gang wanting to or finding the time to do it this way.  Everything would have to be remeasured, cut to custom lengths etc.  They are a custom grill maker so I wish they could have made it happen.  I do love the one I got and am very happy with it.  I had them make it 34.5 inches wide on the cart thinking I would roll it in my front door.  No way!  With it being more narrow it makes the cooker section look bigger and have a smaller footprint instead of having a wide stance.

My wife would have crapped if I tried to bring my unit through the house. I had enough trouble convincing her I "had to have a Lang". Moving it through the house would have been a deal breaker. I had to move it through a side gate and I had less than 1" to spare. At first I thought I'd have to tear down part of a block wall but with a little angle on the unit I got it through. I was doing all the moving by myself until a neighbor took pity on me and decided to help -- after about 5 minutes he wished he'd had kept going. My unit is not as heavy as your's but it's one heavy mother for one person to handle and the steel wheels on gravel make it worse.

The removable stack is the way to go in my opinion.  Have cooked twice and it worked perfectly and pulls like a welded one.  No issues and allows me to use a cover on hybrid!
