The THERMAPEN is a great digital instant read thermometer but it's not cheap-- neither is overcooking an expensive piece of meat. I use it in conjunction with and as a back up to the Maverick ET732. On some meats I don't use the the Maverick and that's where the thermapen becomes a necessity. Don't waste your money on cheap instant read thermometer you can buy at your local market. First of all they're not "instant" and they're not accurate. Additionally, if you buy a bi-metal thermometer you're purchasing 1800's technology. Save your money and buy a thermapen.
