Waitin' on a Lang!

I ordered a 48 deluxe trailer with a chargrill April 9th.  They told me 2-3 weeks.  After 3 weeks I called to see if they might know when it would ship, and he told me it would be a few more weeks.  I'm willing to wait for perfection, but he never mentioned he would notify me when it ships.  Does Lang call you to let you know when it's done?  Does it come with a charcoal basket?  I figured it did since it's shown in the pics, but one guy on here said he added a charcoal basket as an extra.

Can't wait to see this bad boy!

It does not come with a charcoal basket unless you order one. I was told I could pick my 36 stretch up at 9 am on a Saturday at the Q school. I drove 3 hours down there and when Igot there it wawasn't ready. They called in one if the guys to finish it up that day. I didn't leave until 3pm that afternoon. One of the fenders was welded on so far forward it almost rubbed the tire and they didn't put the center caps on the wheels. I was told I was supposed to get a tshirt and that didn't happen either. Great cooker, crappy service. I fixed all of the problems and now it's great.

Sounds like I might have to take up welding to fix this thing once it gets here.  Seems like if you were making high end smokers, you'd put some pride in that.  Guess I'll give them a call to add on the charcoal basket, and check if they've even started on it yet.  I'm guessing he'll tell me it will be a few more weeks...haha.  Oh well.  Thanks for the reply.

Rdbeard: Unfortunately, the end product you'll receive is hit or miss. Maybe you'll get lucky -- a friend of mine purchased a 36 patio, after seeing mine, and his was perfect. Mine was not. Having some welding skill came in handy because I could see through the gaps on the fire box door,  the cook chamber lid was a poor fit and the fire box door latch barely latches (see pictures of this stuff in previous posts).

My suggestion is you look your unit over carefully when you receive it -- I didn't because I was all hyped up to get it. When I fired it up was when I noticed the problems and like "smoking smoker" I fixed them myself.

The Lang is a good smoker but it's not high end -- it's more like mid level due to the  workmanship and lack of a quality control before the unit leaves the factory. Do a google search of "Lang quality" and you'll see what I mean. Inherently, the Lang is a good product and all the defects I've read about could be easily corrected at the factory before delivery and the complaints would disappear. Guess that ain't the American way anymore.

I actually got pretty lucky with the build time on mine. It only took about a week and half to complete from time of order until pickup at the factory. Don't get me wrong, I am pleased with my cooker, it's just that like the above post. The attention to detail leaves a lot to be desired! Learn to weld, you can make your cooker awesome!
