Stainless steel racks

Are the s/s racks worth the upgrade cost or is it just better to take care of the originals? Thanks in advance.

the   s/s racks will be as black as the steel ones first fire up. why s/s racks. the whole smoker is STEEL  keep the entire bbq clean and oiled,  each bbq I heat up to say 275 f. steam clean  cook my food,  then heat up to say 275-300 f steam clean and hit again with oil close dampers to bake in.  works every time, very clean

I stuck with the steel grates as well. They were starting to get a bit rusted before I could season it, but after oiling and seasoning and 3 cooks my grates are a nice dark brown and not a stitch of rust on them.
Just put a good coat of oil on them and spray inside the square tubes as well to prevent moisture and rust from forming and possibly dripping on your food.

Re: Stainless steel racks

On 12/26/13 I ordered SS bottom racks for my Lang 36 after obtaining a price of $80 including shipping. I asked for a Email order confirmation and a tracking number. On 1/6/14, I emailed asking the same question and received no response. Periodically, through January, I checked to see if my check had cleared – I should have used a credit card but I prefer to pay cash.

I thought the check and order was lost in the Xmas mail and at that point I felt if the grates are delivered that will be fine and if not I’ll just do without them. In other words, I didn’t care one way or the other. All through January & February, the check still had not cleared and I decided I didn’t want the SS grates anyway. On 2/20/14, the check cleared and I received a phone call from Lang confirming the order and indicating “they’d get right on it”. What that statement means to Lang is not what it means to me!!

On 3/1/14 still no grates so I Emailed and received a Lang response “will check on order, sorry for delay. Shouldn’t have happened, please excuse”.

On 3/10/14, still no grates have arrived so I phoned Lang and spoke to Ben. He indicated the grates would be shipped on 3/11/14 and someone named Sarah would email me with a tracking number. As of today, I haven’t received a tracking number so I assume the grates haven’t been shipped.

The way I run my business is, if this happened to one of my customers, the situation would be handled IMMEDIATELY, and I’d follow up personally. In hindsight, I should have paid with a credit card but that shouldn’t make any difference. Obviously, I’m not impressed with Lang. I’ll call tomorrow and hear some other excuse, which I’m sick of hearing. They have my money and all I want is to receive the stupid grates. I’d ask for my money back but that would probably take forever and now I really want the grates

I am plenty happy with the regular grates.  Absolutely no reason to spend money on stainless steel if you take the proper steps from the get go!

Further update: I spoke to John today at about 8:00AM Tucson time. I felt the grates would arrive maybe Monday or Tuesday next week at the earliest. Today at 6:30PM Tucson time UPS delivered the grates to my home!!!! I'm impressed with John's handling of the situation.
