Ordered a 36" Hybird Deluxe Patio yesterday!

I am really excited and cant wait until I get it. After researching the Lang smokers and seeing all the modification people have had done I added all the options that would fit my needs Stainless steel grates for the cooker and chargrill, all pneumatic tires with front swivel axle, fire box to warmer damper, charcoal basket. I live in the Phoenix AZ area and it is very popular to have rock/gravel as yard landscape and with the small caster wheels that the patio unit comes with just would not work for me.

Congratulations, and now comes the worst part. The waiting.

Have you received your smoker yet?

Yep the wait is the worst.  I am on week 8 of my wait.  It's killing me I want to get smoking on it.
dejaymattingly

Yes! The wait is terrible. The worst thing about it is, that your smoker was done about 3 days after you ordered it. I had to wait 6 long weeks. As frustrated as I was, I understand the shipping process. But it still sucks. Good luck and happy smoking. Once you receive it that's all you will want to do!

The wait is the hardest part. I ordered the same cooker last year and I love mine!  The wait is worth it. They are so fun to cook on after cooking on CPOS for all these years.

I am still waiting... I called yesterday and I still do not have a delivery date. I just hope I get it before Memorial Day...

Congrats! I too ordered 36' hybrid deluxe with upgraded racks, probe and mounted on wagon wheel cart. Almost went with firebox damper mod to get more heat to the warmer box. Guy from Lang said didn't really need it.

I finally received my smoker a few days ago and it is truly an amazing cooker. Everything people say about how great these are is true! On the first cook I made the best pork shoulder ever! Temps are easy to control and really likes to operate in the 225-250 degrees range. If you are on the fence about buying one JUST DO IT! The key to success for your sanity is to add a couple weeks to the delivery time that they estimate.

A few pictures of my 36 hybrid deluxe

with the pneumatic tires all the way around it is now considered my all terrain cooker, I was able to roll this 900 pound beast over the curbing thru the grass and over the rocks with ease. I seasoned all the cooking chambers and now its ready to cook on. I made a cheap charcoal basket for about $12 with a BFH (dead blow hammer), tin snips, one 2x4 as and anvil, and bailing wire I have to say it worked great...

cost

how much did the front tire wagon handle ugrade cost & what was cost of fire box ugrade
oldskool38

The front tires set up cost an extra $250 and the fire box damper was $50 if I were to do it again I would have them remove the standard warmer box damper and only use the ones from the fire box. I have not used the warmer box yet but I am sure it will make a great vertical smoker that I can put a water pan on the damper vents and be like Myron Mixon and his H2O smokers. Idea

Thanks, believe also no need for the main damper to firebox if i get the direct dampers from the  bottom

Oldskool38,
I am in Las Vegas, NV and looking at buying the same unit. I do have some questions, if you dont mind.

1. Being in a dry climate, why the SS grates? What is the price for these and do you think its worth the upgrade?
2. Do you think a damper needs to be installed on the chargrill smoke stack to help regulate temp?
3. Do you think the wagon wheels on the 48" model would be better than those on the 36" model? I think those shown on the 48" look nicer.
4. How did you choose the accessories as I do not see them on the website? i.e. charcoal basket, SS grates, etc.
5. Any other recommendations for modifications, accessories, Do's or Don'ts?

I set the photo of your rig as my back ground on my computer - BBQ PORN.

Anyone else with recommendations to this setup please chime in.

Thanks for your help.

Have a Smokey Day Smile

1. The county I live in requires SS grates if I were to sell to the public. I might do some catering or BBQ comps in the future. The price was $350 for the chargrill, smoker, and warmer box.
2. I would have the chargrill smoke stack damper installed if I had to do it again. I rigged up a damper this weekend and it did increase the charcoal burn time. still nothing like a green egg.
3. I think the wagon wheels are a preference. The wheels that come with the 48 are at least 4 times more expensive then the ones I got.
4. Lang does not advertise their accessories, I did what you are doing... searching the web to see what other people have done.
5. If I were to do it again I would not pay them for a charcoal basket. They are extremely easy to make. I made mine for about $10 with Home Depot materials. I would also add 1 more thermometer on the smoker door.
6. That is awesome you have that photo on your desktop!

Thank you for quick reply. I have seen a few of the home made charcoal baskets here. Can you post a picture of the one Lang sells?

Everyone at work, thinks I am crazy for being willing to spend so much on a smoker / grill. They think the unit is too big (they see yours on my desktop).

But I tell them I just got to have THE MOST POWERFUL BBQ SMOKER KNOWN TO MAN!
oldskool38

Yesterday I finally received my charcoal basket from Lang. They charged me $50 for it and I will need to modify it so I can add to it when it starts to run low. The bottom picture is one I made for about $12 it does not look as good as the Lang but works just as good. To me a charcoal basket is not about how it looks but how it works.

OldSkool,

Is 900 lbs really the weight of your grill? If not do you remember the actual shipping weight?

Who did you use for shipping? I am trying to get an estimate for the same set up to Las Vegas, NV.

Thanks.
oldskool38

The shipping delivery receipt total shipping weight was 980 pounds on a pallet. I used Clear Lane Freight Systems it was sent on a train and then delivered to my house with a lift gate truck, the pallet was too large for the lift gate and needed to be removed. The trick to your sanity is to add a couple weeks to the estimated delivery date that Lang gives you. They are selling the heck out of their smokers and IMO they are experiencing growing pains. If you need it before Labor day order it ASAP.

price update

Hi, I have the same one ordered as you got old skool. But now you can not get them with the white wheels you have to get the alum. wheels,so that jacks the price up to 2195. And the warmer box upgrade is now 200. We ordered it on may 5 and was told it will be done next week, we cant wait to start cooking on it. Just thought I would give everyone a price update.

Panda, I also ordered my unit on May 5th. I spoke to them earlier this week and they did not mention any increase in price. Are they expecting you to pay higher than the price of the unit you originally ordered? If so, that's bad business. They should honor the price you were given when ordered.
Panda

That was the price when I ordered it, but I called them to see why the price was different between mine and the options that oldskool had put on his,
And that' s when they told me they now only come with alum. wheels and the warmer price increase.
