Need advice on temp control for my patio 48

The advice I need is that I read on here that some smokers are only 5 degrees differenc from left to right. Mine is way higher on the right side than the left is it because the flame is to high on the wood? At what point should I add more wood and how much should I add? It seems if I wait for it to turn to coals and add wood it wants to smolder. I have 2 redi check remotes and that is how i know my temps are way higher. also if anyone has the 48 how much do you open the firebow vents? Any advice would be appreciated.

How hot are you somking at?

You do not want a Big fire in the firebox, a good bed of hot coals to work from adding 1 or 2 small sticks of Dry Aged wood just as the temp starts to drop, you can leave the firebox door open a few minutes to start burning the new wood and then close the door. Your smoke stack should be opened all the way for best air flow, lite blue to clear heat out the smoke stack.
Hope this helps and enjoy.
