few questions not sure if poor quality or design?

I ordered my 48 hybrid deluxe with the wagon cart back on 4-10-14 and got it dropped off this last Thurs. eve. 7-31-14. The cooker looks beautiful in the yard and is very heavy duty as expected. For the most part I am impressed with the cooker so far and don't care if it has the prettiest welds which in my experience don't make the meat taste any better. I do have a couple concerns which I am not sure if all the Langs have or did I get one that slipped through. The first is the damper between the cook chamber and the warming cab is much smaller than the connecting tube and not cut or welded very exact. I though it would be cut slightly smaller for ease of opening and closing but it's a real big gap worse on top when closed. Not really doing much when closed. The second is I noticed 2 holes about 1/2 the size of a dime on the base of the firebox one towards the front of each corner on the door side. My first thought was for water to drain if ever needed but they are not uniforum and look like the torch may have burnt through. Sent Lang the pics Monday and again this morning with no reply. With shipping I am into this thing for $4,645. with out any mods to it. Its a damn good cooker and I don't care about hand cut dampers or not welding the entire cooker just want to make sure I am getting the most out of my pit. I do have pics If anyone can walk me thru loading them. Anyone got similar issues or non issues ?

The damper does need to be smaller than the opening to allow clearance for the damper to move. If it looks like a sloppy job then maybe it slipped thru. Your fire box shouldn't have holes in it either. I would keep calling until you get an answer.

I've got the two very little holes in floor of firebox, one on each side of door for drainage. Can't help with damper though, that sucks.

Thanks I just thought if they were supposed to be they would look a bit more uniforum but its nice to know somebody else has them. Thanks again

Mine are uniform and look like they are supposed to be there. Both a little smaller than the size of a pencil eraser.

I have found when I have a question it's much easier to just call. Lang staff has been very helpful when I have called, but when I have emailed it's about 50/50 if I get a reply. As far as the holes in the firebox, I was also concerned when I first saw the two small holes in my firebox, one in each front corner. So I called and was told that the holes are put there on purpose, for drainage.

Thank you very much for the reply. Ben Lang sent me an email on Fri. saying that he was going to talk to his guys in the shop and call me on Monday so I am assuming he did not like what he seen in the pics. I see you are also in N. CA, do you have a good source for wood and if so what types? I do have a few sources that I have always used but a bit pricey and the quality has always been hit or miss. I am in Suisun and mostly get wood in Santa Rosa & Sac or around here when it comes up but will drive a bit to stock up.

Thanks again

(Update) Got that email from Ben on the 8th saying he was going to talk to his guys and contact me on Monday the 11th. The 19th and nothing yet. Maybe he is a busy man and it slipped his mind, I guess I will give them a call if I don't hear back. Just wanted to see if I should make repairs to get the most out of my smoker? Also a few employees of mine are wanting to purchase Langs or Klose pits out of Texas and are wanting to know what to expect from each before purchasing.

Thanks again
