ashes between the bottom plate and bottom of smoker

After cleaning the firebox out after my Memorial Day cookout, I noticed a build up of ashes in between the plate under the grates and the bottom of the pit. My question is how do you clean it out. I've had my Lang 60 deluxe about 2 1/2 years. Was thinking about just hosing ot out but not sure how it would drain. Thinking of drilling a small hole in the bottom to let it drain. Thanks in advance.

Do you have a shop vac and a long stick? Tape the hose to a stick and vacuum it out.

+1 on the shop vac, I have and old one that does all my firebox cleaning and in the tunnel under the reverse flow plate Forum Index -> Ask about Lang Cookers
