Post Post subject: Multiple butts on Hybrid  Reply with quote

I am considering smoking as many butts as I can at once on my 36 hybrid sometime in the near future for a fundraiser. How many can be done at once and how will it affect the cooking time with the unit being full? I have never done more than one.  Thanks.

I have done six at once so far. I just rotated the ones closest to the firebox once every couple of hours to the far side. Worked like a charm. Towards the end of cooking it gets a bit tricky moving them but if you are carefull they wont fall apart on you.

Thanks for the reply. I have only smoked two so far. I did one on the lower shelf around 8 hours ( undercooked ), then one on the upper shelf 8 hours (overcooked).  When you did 6, how long did you cook?

I did all six on the lower shelf at 265. I had them on for just under 12 hours spraying them once an hour with a mix of apple and orange juice to keep them moist. The top shelf is usually 20 degrees hotter than the bottom shelf. At least thats what I have seen on here from other posts.
