With the cooker loaded or empty? Get a good bed of coals and rake them closer to the fire box door. Check to make sure the damper in the stack is physically open. Don't over load the fire box

Add more wood when firing up to build a good bed of coals. I start with a chimney and about 6 to 8 splits. Keep everything wide open until there's a blazing fire. Close the doors but leave them unlatched to warm up your cooker. Latch the doors and adjust the dampers to where you want the temperature to be at. If your temp across the cooker is more than 20° you have an air flow issue. Try moving the coals around.

Turftech: I assume (just to be sure what we are talking about) by right side you mean the side by the fire box. That side is normally hotter but not by 100*. You've probably check this but could there be a obstruction under the reverse flow plate? Any reverse flow is a simple design -- the heat comes into the cook chamber under the plate, makes the turn and exits the chimney. Other than an obstruction, I'm at a loss to explain what's causing your problem.

That is what I start out with. Then I add 1 or 2 splits every 45 minutes. When I order my wood I'll split each piece down to about the size of a 2x4. It burns down faster and better combustion. Do you have a warmer box on your 36?

no warmer,

just fired it up again cant get left side up to 300 full chimney kingsford blue 4 8x2 splits of oak then added 12 x2 splits see if wasnt big enough fire. right side get up over 300 np but right front can be 20 to 30 deg hotter than right rear.at times left side be anywhere from 30-100 deg colder than left front now left rear cant be 20 deg hotter which i expect just dont understand right front being so hot my fire near door. using 4 maverick probes to measure temps all intakes open stack open and notice seems struggle getting fire going good. and even lose bed coals fast i did add another grate on top hold coals better. i also moved smoker to front as my back is surround by fence trees  if get better air flow had nose just up bit.

might be your wood  ? Is it seasoned and it does take the thick 1/4" steel to heat up good before the temps will level out side to side .
